Forever chemicals have been dominating health news lately, and with good reason. But what exactly is a “forever chemical”? The term is commonly used to describe a group of synthetic chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals are notorious for their resistance to breaking down in the environment and in the human body, leading to their persistence over time—hence the name "forever chemicals." They don’t exist naturally, and because they cannot be broken down easily, they tend to accumulate in our bodies, posing health risks over time. Many PFAS mimic our hormones, which can disrupt the thyroid, liver, kidneys, immune system, and overall fertility. They have also been linked to certain cancers.

PFAS can be found all around your home: in your non-stick cookware, water-repellent fabrics, food packaging, and unfortunately, in beauty and personal care products. In skincare, they’re used to achieve a smooth application, emulsification, and barrier protection to lock in moisture.

While there is a move toward stricter regulation of PFAS, consumers need to be label-smart and recognize if their favorite beauty products contain these chemicals. The three most commonly used PFAS in beauty products are:

  • PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)
  • Perfluorooctyl Triethoxysilane
  • Polyperfluoromethylisopropyl Ether

Be on the lookout for these and anything with the word “fluoro” in it.

Our serum was formulated by a naturopathic doctor and a pharmaceutical scientist, so it’s no coincidence that we created a product free of any synthetic chemicals yet with an elegant consistency and application. Our patented Date Palm Pollen (DPP) also made our task much easier to accomplish. It already creates a silky-smooth application and a protective skin barrier that locks in its own moisture. Due to its physical properties, DPP acts as an excellent and effective alternative to the PFAS commonly used in skincare products. But it’s completely natural and unadulterated.

Switching to PFAS-free skincare products can significantly reduce your exposure to these harmful chemicals. It’s important to read labels carefully and choose products that prioritize natural, safe ingredients. By making informed choices, you can help protect your health and the environment from the long-lasting impact of forever chemicals.
